Alexis Tappendorf and the Search for Beale's Treasure by Becca C. Smith

Alexis's parents are off to New York for a top-secret research. And with no other place to live...she has to survive at her Great Grandma Mae's bungalow for a whole 6 weeks. On their way, she notice men with metal detectors being arrested by the cops. The question arises, what was illegal in going around to finding stuff with metal detectors? On reaching, Alexis befriends the Boyds, and learns to hate the mayor-family Woodmores. She discovers that hidden in the ordinary country-side town Summervale is a century old hidden wonder, aka the Beale's Treasure. Olivia and Alexis are on the search, but what can two little girls do if even no adult has managed to decipher the second clue?! Will the manage to keep away the nasty Woodmores and help to fulfill their family's expenses...

This book is too good to be sold for free on the Amazon website. I found this story to be quite well written, though I though the author should have used more "colourful" words. Some things did make me curious, like how the Woodmores managed to reach the treasure at the end since they were so fat(haha) and how Great Aunt Mae could cook such delicious food in such great amounts even when the family was on their financial lows. I enjoyed the character of the Woodmores, and the occasional fun the family made of them. I would have liked to know more about Mae's late daughter Nora, how she must have been.

The next book following the disappearance of Alexis parents is about the unfounded city of Atlantis.... And I would also love to do some reading on that.
